Episode 84
Smoking Dissidents, You're Supporting 85 Nicaraguan Families, Including Theirs | Box Press Ep. 84
Join Boveda's Rob Ganger for a chat with Dissident Cigars. Boveda are those brown 2-way humidity packs you put in a humidor to preserve cigars. When you own a humidor, you need to make sure the cigars inside stay well-humidified or they can be hard to light, burn to too fast or get moldy. With Boveda in your humidor, you'll get better flavor from a cigar. Boveda has been keeping cigars tasting great for more than 25 years.

- There's a story inside every smoke shop,
Speaker:with every cigar, and with every person.
Speaker:Come be a part of the cigar lifestyle at Boveda.
Speaker:This is "Box Press."
Speaker:(upbeat music)
Speaker:Well, Josh and Cynn, thank you for joining me.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Absolutely.
Speaker:- We were just chatting, and I thought,
Speaker:why not sit you down?
Speaker:- [Josh] Absolutely.
Speaker:- Have a good conversation.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Heck yeah.
Speaker:- Have a good cigar.
Speaker:- Yeah. - That's right.
Speaker:- My story with Dissident,
Speaker:which is pre-you, actually, pre both of you.
Speaker:- Right.
Speaker:- Because it was first like Alec Bradley.
Speaker:- Right. - Uh-huh, it was, yeah.
Speaker:- [Rob] They were making it for somebody.
Speaker:- Mhm.
Speaker:- Those are the ones that I picked up.
Speaker:I was working at the smoke shop,
Speaker:and inside the employee humidor,
Speaker:where all the samples go to get smoked,
Speaker:so you know what's coming up.
Speaker:The Dissident 8-Bit
Speaker:(Cynn and Josh laugh)
Speaker:happened to plug in.
Speaker:And, I looked at the band, and I go, "Wow, 8-Bit!"
Speaker:- Right. - That brings me back.
Speaker:- No joke, for sure. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Kind of cool. Hope it smokes good.
Speaker:(Josh laughs)
Speaker:- And, it's still floating around.
Speaker:We still see it randomly on social media, and we're like,
Speaker:- Collectors still got them.
Speaker:- I have two boxes. Full. - Wow, really?
Speaker:- Wow. - Oh my gosh.
Speaker:- If you ever want one,
Speaker:and more than one.
Speaker:If you ever want an 8-Bit from the original release,
Speaker:I'm down for, to share.
Speaker:- Oh, heck yeah.
Speaker:- My experience with you.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- We're gonna carry on 8-Bit,
Speaker:(Josh laughs) and Dissident,
Speaker:and all the other things that you're creating
Speaker:to the next generation.
Speaker:- Yeah, for sure.
Speaker:- Heck, yeah.
Speaker:- As we do, yeah. - I love that.
Speaker:- So, I will share.
Speaker:- That'd be great.
Speaker:- Always.
Speaker:- For sure.
Speaker:- With my friends. - Thank you. Thank you.
Speaker:- We're down with that.
Speaker:- You're my friends. I'll share with you.
Speaker:- Awesome.
Speaker:- All you gotta do is ask.
Speaker:- We'll ask. - Nice.
Speaker:- Or, we'll just hang out together, and I'll just offer.
Speaker:- Perfect. (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- Either, or. - Come to Nicaragua.
Speaker:- Yeah. Come on down. - I will.
Speaker:- Come visit.
Speaker:- Have a vacation. - Bring some 8-Bits.
Speaker:- If the offer is to come to your house, and stay with you,
Speaker:I would totally do it.
Speaker:- Offers there, man.
Speaker:- Come on down. Have a seat. - Doors open.
Speaker:- We'll sit and stare at the ocean,
Speaker:and smoke some Dissidents,
Speaker:some vintage Dissident.
Speaker:Let's do it. (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- I don't think you guys know how important this is to me.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs) - Hey, we're open man.
Speaker:- This is the kind of stuff you can't script.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- Before this, did we say we were gonna get together,
Speaker:before the show? Sit down, have a conversation?
Speaker:- No.
Speaker:- No.
Speaker:- Did you at all try to get on the show,
Speaker:in your own regard, by tapping me on the shoulder,
Speaker:asking me to get on it?
Speaker:- Nope. - Nope.
Speaker:- Did I come over to you at any point before just now,
Speaker:and say, "Can you be on my show? I really like your vibe."
Speaker:- Nope. - No, you did not.
Speaker:- No. - No.
Speaker:- It just happened. - Yeah.
Speaker:- You wanna know what happened to me?
Speaker:Somebody else was supposed to be sitting here right now.
Speaker:- Wow.
Speaker:- I'm not gonna name that name,
Speaker:but, you know, it just didn't work.
Speaker:It's not them choosing not to,
Speaker:and it's not me trying to force them to get on the show.
Speaker:So, when it didn't work out, I turned around,
Speaker:and who's standing inside the Boveda booth
Speaker:other than Josh and Cynn from Dissident.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs) - Right.
Speaker:- The universe works in wonderful ways.
Speaker:- I kinda looked at it and I go,
Speaker:"Is this a sign?" (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:I don't know. I'm gonna go ask them.
Speaker:Josh, I approached you first, and I said,
Speaker:"Hey, would you wanna be on "Box Press"?
Speaker:Just sit down and have a conversation?"
Speaker:You went like this.
Speaker:"Yeah, I'd be interested in that."
Speaker:(Cynn laughs) I was like, "How about Cynn?
Speaker:Would she?"
Speaker:I asked you.
Speaker:You said, "Yeah."
Speaker:You said it a little quicker than Josh.
Speaker:So, I'm not sure.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- Oh, you know. - If that's a good thing.
Speaker:- Or you're just the guy that kind of takes a minute
Speaker:to think about it.
Speaker:- I just had to make sure we had the time.
Speaker:- [Rob] Yeah.
Speaker:- She's the boss. (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:She keeps the schedule, man.
Speaker:I just show up.
Speaker:- Yeah. And I'm kind of the guy who's like,
Speaker:"Yeah, quick. Boom. Go."
Speaker:- [Cynn] Uh huh.
Speaker:- I don't really think.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- Too long.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- Sometimes I should.
Speaker:- Hmmm?
Speaker:- [Rob] Before I do something.
Speaker:- I'm very much like you, though.
Speaker:The best things happen that way.
Speaker:- I found my wife that way.
Speaker:- Yeah. See, see. - Nice.
Speaker:- I told myself I'm just gonna say, "Yes,"
Speaker:if an opportunity for a romantic person comes into my life.
Speaker:And, it happened at a baseball game,
Speaker:with her drunk friend yelling at me.
Speaker:- Oh my gosh. (Josh laughs)
Speaker:- Telling me, "Hey, my friend likes your beard.
Speaker:You should give her your number."
Speaker:- Perfect.
Speaker:- And, I did it, and now we're married.
Speaker:- Nice. - Amazing.
Speaker:- Nice.
Speaker:- I love that. - So it's an energy thing.
Speaker:- Absolutely. - Yeah.
Speaker:- It absolutely is.
Speaker:- For us, it was Instagram, man.
Speaker:So, you just never know.
Speaker:- Yes! - Who knows.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- Instagram. - Yeah, right.
Speaker:- Brought you together.
Speaker:- Absolutely. - Yep.
Speaker:- It's not that you're social media whores,
Speaker:it's just the fact that you use that medium to connect.
Speaker:- Yep.
Speaker:- And, something was pulling you.
Speaker:- Uh huh.
Speaker:- Into, gosh, I just need to know who this person is.
Speaker:- Yeah. - 100%.
Speaker:- On the other end of this picture.
Speaker:- Yep. - Yep.
Speaker:- That's exactly how it worked. Yeah.
Speaker:- That's exactly what happened.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- Yep. And now here we are,
Speaker:you know, a few years later,
Speaker:moved several states,
Speaker:ended up living in a different country,
Speaker:and owning a cigar company. Who would've thought.
Speaker:- Nicaragua.
Speaker:- [Josh] Yep.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Yeah.
Speaker:- You're living it.
Speaker:- [Josh] Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker:- You're not going,
Speaker:you're not flying from the mainland.
Speaker:- Yep. - You're living it.
Speaker:- Yep. - 100%. Every day.
Speaker:- What does it mean to live it?
Speaker:- Oh man, it's awesome. It's like.
Speaker:- It's amazing.
Speaker:We have no regrets.
Speaker:- Yeah. It's truly paradise.
Speaker:And, it's true freedom.
Speaker:Like, you know, it's just unbelievable.
Speaker:You get to live amongst locals, and learn every day.
Speaker:You get to, you know, you're not going to Walmart
Speaker:to make your purchases.
Speaker:- [Rob] Right.
Speaker:- You know, or Target.
Speaker:You're going to, you know, the local market
Speaker:to pick up all your food.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- And, to get fresh baked bread, and to do all this stuff.
Speaker:Get eggs from, you know, the locals who are getting them
Speaker:straight from the chicken.
Speaker:- Free range chickens down the road.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yep. And it's unbelievable.
Speaker:- And, you're supporting the local families.
Speaker:- You know, it's wonderful. - Yep.
Speaker:- I mean, living there is very humbling.
Speaker:Every day is very humbling.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- And, being humbled is very important to us.
Speaker:It keeps us real, it keeps us appreciative
Speaker:of everything that we have.
Speaker:And, you know, to us community is a big deal.
Speaker:You know, you need that.
Speaker:You need that in the cigar industry,
Speaker:you need that everywhere.
Speaker:- Right.
Speaker:- You know, and there's a lot of places
Speaker:that have lost touch with community,
Speaker:and we're trying to bring that back. So.
Speaker:- Absolutely. - I love it.
Speaker:- Yeah. - And, with that,
Speaker:talking about cigars.
Speaker:Being there has given us a different perspective, as well,
Speaker:because it allows us to more understand and communicate
Speaker:on shows like this, and with others who smoke our cigars.
Speaker:Like, yes, you're supporting us,
Speaker:but you're also supporting like 85 families
Speaker:in Nicaragua.
Speaker:- It's much bigger than you think.
Speaker:- Yes. It absolutely is.
Speaker:- It's much bigger than the two of us and our family,
Speaker:you know?
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- So, it's wonderful to be there,
Speaker:and see that.
Speaker:Whenever we want, we can stop in the factory,
Speaker:say, "What's up?" when we're,
Speaker:you know, doing business, doing blends, whatever.
Speaker:And, they're showing up, they're smiling,
Speaker:they're stoked to be there, every single day.
Speaker:- They're some of the happiest people we've ever met.
Speaker:- Yep.
Speaker:- Every day. - Right.
Speaker:- Every day, they're so happy.
Speaker:- Unbelievable.
Speaker:- Yeah, it's amazing.
Speaker:- Right. Because they're doing what they love.
Speaker:- Uh huh. - And, they're living life.
Speaker:- Yep. - Yep.
Speaker:- And, it gets messy.
Speaker:- Mhm. - It does.
Speaker:- It's not perfect.
Speaker:- Right. - Right.
Speaker:- But, guess what? It's all in how you react.
Speaker:- Yes, yes. Yep. - Absolutely. Yep.
Speaker:- Life is all about perspective.
Speaker:That's a big deal. You know, you can.
Speaker:- [Rob] Huge deal.
Speaker:- Yeah. You can look at something one way,
Speaker:or you can look at it the other way.
Speaker:Always go for the positive way,
Speaker:because everything has a lesson in it.
Speaker:- I'm having a hard time being around people
Speaker:with negative energy.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Oh yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Same.
Speaker:- And, I distance myself from them.
Speaker:- [Josh] You have to.
Speaker:- And, I distanced myself from a guy from Minnesota,
Speaker:who's actually here.
Speaker:- [Josh] Ah.
Speaker:- He had some negative energy. I could just feel it.
Speaker:- Right. - Wow.
Speaker:- Didn't know what it was, because I didn't want to ask.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yeah.
Speaker:- We reconnected,
Speaker:he admitted to his negative energy,
Speaker:and I think we're gonna have a really cool friendship.
Speaker:- Awesome. - Wow.
Speaker:- That's gonna last my lifetime.
Speaker:- Nice! - Wow! That's great.
Speaker:- Awesome! - It's just amazing.
Speaker:- And, in many ways,
Speaker:your stepping away was probably part of that catalyst
Speaker:for him to recognize, you know,
Speaker:it seems like such a negative thing,
Speaker:but it was actually a gift that.
Speaker:- It was. - You're handing him.
Speaker:- He noted it.
Speaker:- Absolutely. That's awesome.
Speaker:- Unbelievable.
Speaker:- It's bizarre, man. (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- And, I can do a corny thing and be like,
Speaker:"Oh, it was the scars that brought us together."
Speaker:- Ah ha ha. That sounds tough.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs) - But, you know what it was?
Speaker:It was we're both passionate about a similar hobby.
Speaker:But, it's beyond passion. It's a part of my life.
Speaker:- Right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- And, it will be for the rest of my life.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- Right on. Same. We get it.
Speaker:- I mean, I don't know, when you have kids,
Speaker:do you say, "Well, they're only mine until they're 18."
Speaker:- Right. (Josh laughs)
Speaker:- [Rob] And, then they're done.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- If you decide to have children,
Speaker:that's the rest of your life.
Speaker:- [Cynn] It is.
Speaker:- Your life is forever changed.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- It's like jumping out of an airplane,
Speaker:and the old person's stuck back in the airplane.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right on. That's a good way to look at it.
Speaker:- And, you got a new person,
Speaker:you got a parachute that's gonna catch you,
Speaker:but you're free falling for a while, and it's scary.
Speaker:- Yes.
Speaker:- Right. Yep.
Speaker:But it's always worth that risk, isn't it?
Speaker:It's always worth jumping.
Speaker:- I'm still falling, Josh,
Speaker:(Josh and Cynn laugh)
Speaker:so I really don't know.
Speaker:- I'll tell you, it's worth it.
Speaker:- You'll look back. - I'm going to trust you.
Speaker:- You're going to get a lesson anyway.
Speaker:- You gotta jump without those wings.
Speaker:That's what we always say.
Speaker:- I'm gonna trust you,
Speaker:because right now I'm free falling.
Speaker:- Well.
Speaker:- I got a three week old at home named Finley.
Speaker:- Wow. - Aww.
Speaker:- And, I got a year and a half year old named Nora.
Speaker:- Oh my gosh, yeah. - Congratulations.
Speaker:- And, I've got a beautiful wife named Abby.
Speaker:- Aww. - Awesome.
Speaker:- Congrats, man.
Speaker:- And, if we get the opportunity to go to Nicaragua,
Speaker:you'll meet them all.
Speaker:- That's awesome.
Speaker:- Because I'm bringing the whole fam-damn-ily.
Speaker:- All right. All right.
Speaker:- It's a perfect place for it.
Speaker:- It absolutely is that.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yeah, it's wonderful.
Speaker:- I need a little break,
Speaker:because with all the COVID stuff,
Speaker:I didn't get to travel, and take a family vacation.
Speaker:- [Josh] Mhm.
Speaker:- And, I'm thinking you guys might be it.
Speaker:- There you go. Make it happen.
Speaker:- Lots of beaches, lots of things to learn from.
Speaker:You know, it's just, it's wonderful.
Speaker:Your kids can see sloths, and monkeys, and lizards, and.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- I saw some stuff raining down
Speaker:from the jungle that you guys live in.
Speaker:Is it an often occurrence
Speaker:that you're out enjoying your space,
Speaker:and you gotta watch out for the wilderness,
Speaker:because you're actually interrupting their space as well?
Speaker:- It is absolutely like that.
Speaker:We are guests in their environment.
Speaker:That's the way it is.
Speaker:- Yeah. The mentality of,
Speaker:"Hey, get outta my yard," doesn't exist.
Speaker:- Right? - No.
Speaker:- Because it's their yard
Speaker:that you decided to build your home in.
Speaker:- [Josh] Correct.
Speaker:- So, you gotta share it.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Yep.
Speaker:- How do you respect nature
Speaker:without having negative energy come from it?
Speaker:- Man, when we moved there, sorry,
Speaker:- if I jumped in too quick. - No, you're good.
Speaker:- Truly, when we moved,
Speaker:a lot of people move there,
Speaker:especially as Americans, looking for American amenities.
Speaker:But we were the opposite.
Speaker:We wanted to be as immersed in the culture,
Speaker:and the nature, as possible.
Speaker:That's why we live where we live.
Speaker:There's other options, but we're not those people.
Speaker:- You could have gotten the American culture in Nicaragua.
Speaker:You could have bought the condo.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- You could have had the car.
Speaker:- Yep. - Right.
Speaker:- You could go to Starbucks, and get a coffee.
Speaker:- No Starbucks.
Speaker:- Ya, there's no Starbucks there.
Speaker:- Okay. You could have gotten a coffee at some big chain.
Speaker:- There you go.
Speaker:- You could have went to the grocery store,
Speaker:and got your goods.
Speaker:- Right. Right.
Speaker:- But, instead you decide to live amongst the locals.
Speaker:- Right. - Yep.
Speaker:- The ones that have been there before you.
Speaker:Because guess what,
Speaker:we're all just immigrants
Speaker:traveling from one spot to a next.
Speaker:- Yep.
Speaker:- Hoping that the community we land in is gonna accept us.
Speaker:- Yes. - Yep.
Speaker:- How has Nicaragua opened its loving arms,
Speaker:and given you a warm embrace?
Speaker:- You know, honestly,
Speaker:they actually have absolutely done that, you know.
Speaker:Prior to moving there. We went there about,
Speaker:what, two years ago now?
Speaker:- Yeah, it's been two. Yep.
Speaker:- And, it's funny because
Speaker:in America they were warning us like,
Speaker:"Oh, you guys have a lot of tattoos.
Speaker:You know, they don't know if they like tattoos there yet.
Speaker:And, just to let you know."
Speaker:And, we get there,
Speaker:and it was the most amazing experience ever.
Speaker:It was nothing like what people said.
Speaker:- [Rob] Right.
Speaker:- Yeah. You know, like people are coming up.
Speaker:They wanted to touch Josh's beard, they loved his beard.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- It's funny because now that we've been there,
Speaker:and the locals know us,
Speaker:they called me Senor Barba,
Speaker:which is Mr. Beard, basically.
Speaker:- Senor Barba?
Speaker:- Right. Yep.
Speaker:- I love it.
Speaker:- It's so funny.
Speaker:And, it's because, you know,
Speaker:Nicaraguans by and large don't have beards.
Speaker:- Right.
Speaker:- So.
Speaker:- Same with Asians.
Speaker:- Yeah. Exactly. - Yeah.
Speaker:- They just cannot grow one. - Not a lot of beard game
Speaker:- going on.
Speaker:- Right.
Speaker:- It's just a cultural thing.
Speaker:- And, it's so bizarre.
Speaker:- The body, I don't know. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Yep. - Yeah.
Speaker:- And, it's crazy, because that's exactly how it is.
Speaker:So, for me to walk in different locations,
Speaker:and for them to see it, it's rare.
Speaker:Which is funny, because like here, beards everywhere, right.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- There for them to see it, it's just.
Speaker:- [Rob] Tons of beards.
Speaker:- They do, they come touch it, you know?
Speaker:It's like, just because, they've never seen a beard.
Speaker:- Of this size. - I love it.
Speaker:- It's so funny.
Speaker:- But they're wonderful. I mean,
Speaker:we've been living there for a year and a half now,
Speaker:and the locals know us, and they love us, you know.
Speaker:If you have good energy, you're a good person.
Speaker:It always works out, you know.
Speaker:So, they look for us whenever we're in town,
Speaker:they look for us. They're like, "Oh, Coburn, how are you?"
Speaker:- Right. - You know?
Speaker:- What's the last name?
Speaker:- Coburn. - Coburn.
Speaker:- Coburn.
Speaker:- Coburn. You got it. - Yeah.
Speaker:- They call you The Coburn?
Speaker:- The Coburns. Yeah. - Well, The Coburns.
Speaker:- The Coburns.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yep.
Speaker:- It's like living next to the Andersons.
Speaker:- Right. That's exactly what it is.
Speaker:- Right down on good old American Lane.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- Well, you know, living there,
Speaker:when I'm walking through the town we live in,
Speaker:I always think of the stories
Speaker:my grandfather used to tell me.
Speaker:- [Rob] "Leave it to Beaver."
Speaker:- Yeah. About like America when he was growing up
Speaker:in the 20s and 30s
Speaker:in the small town where everybody relies on everybody,
Speaker:and community is real. We lose that.
Speaker:- Oh, God yeah.
Speaker:- [Josh] In a lot of places here.
Speaker:- Society has stripped it as hard as it can.
Speaker:- [Josh] Yep.
Speaker:- Out of our culture. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Yep. And it is absolutely
Speaker:still filled with community there.
Speaker:Everyone helps everyone.
Speaker:It doesn't matter if you have something,
Speaker:or you have nothing,
Speaker:you're still contributing. And, it's wonderful.
Speaker:It's allowed us to give back in different ways
Speaker:than we ever did previously. And, it's been wonderful.
Speaker:It's so fulfilling.
Speaker:- And, everything's simple there, you know.
Speaker:You don't need to have an appointment
Speaker:to get your tire plugged, you know,
Speaker:because your tire's running low.
Speaker:You literally just,
Speaker:we know there's a place right down the road.
Speaker:We just literally pull up. The guy comes out,
Speaker:plugs your tire, and you're on your way.
Speaker:- Right.
Speaker:- Five bucks. Not even five bucks.
Speaker:(Josh laughs)
Speaker:So, it's wonderful.
Speaker:- We're getting the vibe in here, huh?
Speaker:- Yeah. Now we gotta dance. (laughs)
Speaker:- If you guys can hear that.
Speaker:Somebody's got some real hardcore,
Speaker:what is this? Latin music?
Speaker:- I feel like it's their version of,
Speaker:"Hey, we all gotta go people."
Speaker:I feel like they're like amping it up,
Speaker:because it's that time.
Speaker:- We going cha-cha out the door.
Speaker:(Cynn and Josh laugh)
Speaker:- Hey, it was good to see you.
Speaker:Hey, I like your cigars!
Speaker:Hey, see you next year!
Speaker:- Yes. - Hey!
Speaker:- This is how it should of.
Speaker:- Whoa!
Speaker:- Getting too excited over here.
Speaker:- Oh, now you lost it.
Speaker:- Party foul.
Speaker:(Cynn and Josh laughing)
Speaker:- Time to exit. Hey! Hey!
Speaker:- This is how it should have been the whole show.
Speaker:- Yes. Yeah.
Speaker:- This is how it should have been all week.
Speaker:- Yes. - Music?
Speaker:- Give him the music. - Like, this, yeah.
Speaker:- That vibe.
Speaker:- No, no. no. You guys, I can barely hear you.
Speaker:And, I'm really worried about the sound quality.
Speaker:So, no music.
Speaker:(Cynn and Josh laugh) - I guess you have a point.
Speaker:- We did hear there was a mariachi band here yesterday.
Speaker:- So, that was pretty crazy. - Yeah, we missed that.
Speaker:- Right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- It was very loud by our booth. We never saw them.
Speaker:- See, this is just further confirmation
Speaker:that wherever we go we bring the party.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs) - [Rob] Yeah!
Speaker:- It's gotta end at roughly 9:00 PM, because we go to bed.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- Dude, nude by nine.
Speaker:- Yeah. - It's my motto.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Nude by nine.
Speaker:- Absolutely. That's the way to do it.
Speaker:- I love that. - Gotta go to bed.
Speaker:- I love that. - Nude by nine.
Speaker:- [Josh] I like it.
Speaker:- It started with one of our workers, Drew Emmer.
Speaker:He's a great guy. He'll go hard in the paint all day long.
Speaker:But when nine o'clock comes, "I gotta go to bed, dude."
Speaker:- [Josh] That's the way to do it.
Speaker:- And, I sleep naked. He sleeps naked.
Speaker:We don't sleep together.
Speaker:But, guess what?
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:We both understand the nude by nine.
Speaker:- [Josh] Nude by nine. I like it.
Speaker:- I literally just look at him, and I go.
Speaker:- [Josh] That's right.
Speaker:- And, he knows
Speaker:- [Josh] That's right.
Speaker:- Him and I are getting an Uber back to the Palazzo.
Speaker:We're going up the second floor,
Speaker:because we are not walking by that stinking bar
Speaker:where everyone's gonna drag us in.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Yeah.
Speaker:- And, we're gonna miss our appointment with nude by nine.
Speaker:- Yeah. - That's right.
Speaker:- That's the way to do it.
Speaker:- The infamous Bar Luca.
Speaker:- Right. (Cynn laughs)
Speaker:- I love it.
Speaker:- I should adopt that.
Speaker:We have too many dogs though.
Speaker:I don't know if I could do nude by nine.
Speaker:They all end up in our bed.
Speaker:- I do the whole hanging out at the bar thing.
Speaker:I absolutely love it.
Speaker:In fact, if I didn't this weekend,
Speaker:I wouldn't have met Ra'ed
Speaker:from The Leaf Master in Dubai.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Yeah.
Speaker:- And, I wouldn't have had a cool experience.
Speaker:- [Josh] Awesome man.
Speaker:- [Cynn] That's wonderful.
Speaker:- But, every once in a while
Speaker:I have to listen to my body and I have to say,
Speaker:- Right. - "It's time to go."
Speaker:- [Josh] Right on.
Speaker:- It's time to go to bed.
Speaker:- We did that last night. That was for sure.
Speaker:We were feeling it last night.
Speaker:- [Rob] Me too.
Speaker:- [Josh] It was hot.
Speaker:- But then, I got on a wave.
Speaker:I was packing up, thinking how grateful I was
Speaker:for this whole weekend.
Speaker:And, at 3:00 AM I recorded a live on Instagram
Speaker:thanking all the people that were on the show
Speaker:that helped to make it happen.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Aw.
Speaker:- And, you guys are a part of that.
Speaker:- [Josh] Awesome.
Speaker:- Because, I left a little segment in there that was,
Speaker:I have some meetings set up for tomorrow,
Speaker:and those are gonna be great and top-notch.
Speaker:And, you guys weren't set up.
Speaker:So, this camera's rolling.
Speaker:These audio mics are recording.
Speaker:And, I want you to know,
Speaker:if you go on my Instagram, it's Boveda_Rob.
Speaker:- [Josh] Got you.
Speaker:- If you go on it, and you watch the thank you,
Speaker:understand that it was recorded in hindsight.
Speaker:Is that the correct way?
Speaker:It was recorded before I sat down with you.
Speaker:But, the thank you and the invitation
Speaker:to say how grateful I am that you're here,
Speaker:and sitting with me is extended to you.
Speaker:- Thank you. - Thank you so much.
Speaker:- [Rob] On a personal level.
Speaker:- Appreciate that a ton. - Really appreciate that.
Speaker:- Yeah. Thank you so much. - Yeah.
Speaker:- And, now you got me thinking about how,
Speaker:to properly use the word hindsight.
Speaker:Because I don't know if you're wrong,
Speaker:but I don't know if you're right either.
Speaker:(Cynn laughs)
Speaker:So, now I'm gonna wake up at 3:00 AM on the flight,
Speaker:on our red eye, and I'm gonna be like,
Speaker:"Oh, this is the answer."
Speaker:- That's the way it works. - Text it to me.
Speaker:- I'm gonna get some of the best sleep I've ever had.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Good.
Speaker:- Once I get home,
Speaker:even though I have a three week old.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right.
Speaker:- I don't know how that's possible, but my wife is amazing.
Speaker:- Yeah, I was gonna say, you'll figure it out.
Speaker:You'll figure it out.
Speaker:- Yeah. - You're gonna crash.
Speaker:- Nice and hard.
Speaker:- You might be on dad duty for like another a month straight
Speaker:while she goes and has a good time, but that's all right.
Speaker:- [Josh] That's the price you pay, right?
Speaker:- Right. It is.
Speaker:And I owe it to her.
Speaker:- [Josh] Right on.
Speaker:- Because she supports me a hundred percent.
Speaker:- Perfect. - Amazing.
Speaker:- All the way to the point where she even says, "Hey."
Speaker:She has no idea how my workday went on a Friday.
Speaker:And, one Friday she just texts me, says,
Speaker:"I think you should go to the smoke shop, have a cigar,
Speaker:and hang out with the people at the smoke shop."
Speaker:- She knows you. - Yeah.
Speaker:- I said, "Are you sure?"
Speaker:She said, "Absolutely."
Speaker:- [Cynn] Aww.
Speaker:- I'll see you after eight o'clock.
Speaker:- [Josh] Perfect.
Speaker:- I got home.
Speaker:I was the most attentive husband I hope to her,
Speaker:because I just was so grateful that she just knew me.
Speaker:- Yeah. - Right.
Speaker:- And then, gave me the permission,
Speaker:not that I needed it, but that I really appreciated it,
Speaker:to say, "Hey, you go do you. I'll sacrifice three hours
Speaker:of not seeing you, because I know it's an investment
Speaker:on how well you're gonna come back to me, and love on me."
Speaker:- Right. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah. That's huge, man. - You're seen and valued, man.
Speaker:- That's awesome. - Right.
Speaker:- [Rob] Return on investment,
Speaker:and it doesn't have to be monetary.
Speaker:- Right. - Right. That's for sure.
Speaker:- That's for sure. - Yeah.
Speaker:- The monetary ones are actually, in many ways,
Speaker:the least important, right?
Speaker:- A hundred percent.
Speaker:- That's how we view it, all the time.
Speaker:- Right. - Always.
Speaker:- [Rob] The money will come and go.
Speaker:- It will.
Speaker:- The energy can get you stuck.
Speaker:- [Josh] Well, right. Yeah.
Speaker:- The energy can get you stuck in the rut.
Speaker:- Yes, yeah. - A hundred percent.
Speaker:- The energy sometimes won't leave,
Speaker:unless you choose to make it leave.
Speaker:- Yep, yep. Absolutely, man. Absolutely.
Speaker:- Yeah. A lot to learn from that too.
Speaker:- My cigars out. We're gonna exit.
Speaker:- [Josh] All good, man. It was a pleasure.
Speaker:- Thank you Cynn, Josh. - You're very welcome.
Speaker:- Thank you for sitting down with me.
Speaker:- Yeah! - You got it.
Speaker:- Absolutely. - Our pleasure, man.
Speaker:- Thank you so much.
Speaker:- Final act, right?
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- Exactly.
Speaker:- [Cynn] Roll the credits. (laughs)
Speaker:- Roll the credits. That's it.
Speaker:Another episode of "Box Press" in the wraps.
Speaker:We're closing out PCA 2022.
Speaker:Thank you all for watching.
Speaker:I hope you enjoyed this whole series,
Speaker:and realize how much passion, and that's a buzzword,
Speaker:how much cigars are part of our lives.
Speaker:I hope they're a part of yours as well.
Speaker:Peace.
